When we came together in the wake of our tragedy, it was to support one another and find ways to help our community heal.
One way we’re doing that is the first-ever Newtown Yoga Festival on Saturday, August 24 from 10am to 4pm at NYA Sports & Fitness. It’s being organized by yoga teacher Jennifer Bassett and other community members who wanted to connect around something uplifting.
World-renowned yoga instructors Seane Corn and Beryl Bender Birch will lead stretches aimed at peace, mindfulness and love as well as teach people how to bring the principles of yoga “off the mat” and into their everyday lives. Newtown’s Karen Pierce, author of Yoga Bear: Yoga for Youngsters, will lead youth sessions.
There will also be food from local vendors, live music and more. All proceeds from the event will benefit Sandy Hook Promise.
I hope you’ll join us for this day of healing and transformation. The event will fill up quickly, so don’t wait – we’re limited to fewer than 1,000 people.

This event is geared not just toward yoga, but toward promoting wellness, healing and community.
I love what Seane Corn said: “It is so necessary in times of crisis that we stand together to share our love and support.”
She’s right. We’d love for you to join us by coming together for this event.
