Again if you are anything like me, you had a rude awakening after your training, certification, apprenticeship or decision to pursue this career.
That rude awakening was the moment you realized that you may know how to help your clients to overcome their personal or physical challenges, but you don’t really know how to find clients or how to make sure the right clients find you.
- You may have tried advertising in the local holistic journal or free magazine like “natural awakenings”
- You may have tried networking at your local chamber of commerce or your local holistic breakfast networking meetings
- You may have advertised in the yellow pages.
- You may have even tried buying a table at a holistic health fair.
- Maybe you asked your friends for referrals or asked the few clients you have for referrals (that can feel weird and awkward) and they kind of looked uncomfortable and hesitant…
- You may hate feeling “salesy” or “pushy” or “too cold and businesslike”

After all, you just want to help people…
And then when you do get an actual prospective client to make an appointment, chances are they won’t show up or if they show up they won’t come back more than one or two times… even though you helped them.
In my field, hypnosis and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), I can help people make massive improvements in their lives, quite rapidly. But I experienced every single one of the problems I’ve just described, and what’s more, so many of the holistic practitioners I’ve had the privilege to know over the years were suffering from the same challenges.
The bottom line is that because they only studied their healing specialty, because they didn’t see themselves as “business people”, they failed to help a lot of people who could have really used their expertise.
Take a moment to imagine, right now all the people you could have been helping if you only had the right information, and the right support to create a steady stream of qualified, committed clients who were effortlessly magnetized to you and your practice.

There is an old joke about folk singers that applies to other “love based” pursuits, like holistic practitioners. It goes like this:
“A folk singer won the lottery. When asked what he would do with the money he replied, “I’m going to play professionally until the money runs out!”
Many, many holistic practitioners are so committed to their calling that they also seem to have that attitude of “I’m going to practice my holistic modality even if it loses money, and totally exhausts me.
The point is, we don’t just do this for the money but if we don’t charge enough or have enough clients we do both ourselves and the men and women who actually value and appreciate our services a disservice because we will be out of business and stuck in working a “day job”.
So learning some intelligent and appropriate business skills is crucial. That doesn’t mean you have to suddenly become a rigid “bean counter” and only focus on profit margins and focus groups.
In my experience, the ONLY strategy that actually has worked repeatedly and consistently to attract paying clients in all the different niches I work in has been online marketing.
Now by “online marketing” I don’t mean you spend $2,500 bucks for some static “brochure” style website that no one ever goes to or reads.
I’m referring to a process, a system, a 24-7 lead generation strategy that brings you exactly the kinds of clients you enjoy working with the most.
Once you set it up it requires very little financial investment to keep going and it works 24-7 bringing the best, most qualified clients to your door.
It also offers the solo practitioner multiple ways to automate and streamline the process of running a practice so you can avoid that cost and hassle of a “support staff”.
Since income from seeing individual clients is the easiest and most immediate way to earn a living, it can jump start you and save you years of struggle. “Word of mouth” often takes forever. And if you work with people for something like I do, anxiety, performance anxiety, shyness, phobias, etc, where people seldom admit to ever having the problem, much less referring their friends in, it just works easier, faster, better to be found online for the specific problems you help people solve.
But then, having an online presence also enables you to create digital products and courses that can greatly add to your income without taking too much time away from your practice or your personal life.
