And with that comes longer days.
It is also the one time of year when you have the chance to plant your very own holistic garden. Gardening is a great way to connect with nature, and in bad economic times it is a great way to save money while enjoying a healthy lifestyle at the same time.
These are a few “must haves” that will be perfect for your garden (and diet) this summer.
What’s more, most of the seven on this list can even be grown in pots if you happen to live an an apartment or condo.
Seven “Must Have” Plants for Your Garden
Without further ado, here is the list of 7 plants that every holistic garden should have:
- tomatoes
- chile peppers
- garlic
- raspberries
- oregano
- parsley
- basil
Tomatoes are an anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, and contain GABA, a compound that regulates and enhances mood. Tomatoes require a large amount of space to grow properly, so they are not recommended for potting.
Chile peppers can consist of many types of hot peppers that include, jalapenos, cayenne,or cherry peppers.
All hot peppers contain vitamin A and C, and work as a powerful decongestant. Chili peppers are perennial in warmer climates.
Garlic is an immune booster that is anti-microbial, and anti-bacterial.
Garlic can be added to salads, or marinades. However garlic contains the most healing properties when it is eaten raw.
Raspberries are a perennial, that grows great in northern states. They are loaded with vitamin C and many minerals such as potassium and zinc.
Oregano is a great, and a very healthy addition to your holistic garden. It is considered an anti-oxidant. Oregano can spice up a tomato salad or sauce.
Parsley is a hearty herb full of vitamin C and calcium. Parsley can be placed in pots, and moved in doors for the winter. Parsley requires very little space to plant.
Basil has a great ability to improve mood. It is also loaded with vitamin K, C, and A.
Just like parsley basil is easily grown in pots so you can grow them on a patio, balcony or window sill even if you live in a condo or apartment with no problem.
