“Take Your Wisdom One Day At A Time,” says the Turtle…
My family and I are basking in memories from a relaxing yet spirited 5-day Western Caribbean cruise aboard Carnival Inspiration that took us to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and Cozumel, Mexico.
Out of the hundreds of pictures I took during our trip, I find myself drawn to those taken at Cayman Turtle Farm that “has placed more than 31,000 endangered green sea turtles into the wild since its 1968 founding.”
I keep studying a picture of my son and nephew handling a turtle that Andrew, our knowledgeable and pleasant tour guide, temporarily removed from one of the outdoors turtle tanks via a net to give visitors the opportunity to interact with these fascinating creatures more intimately.
Andrew showed us how to securely hold the turtle and taught us to stroke its throat to calm it down, if necessary.
He cautioned our group to handle these green sea turtles with special care, because if one of them fell to the ground, it would instantly die.
No one wanted to see that, of course!
Plus, considering the turtle represents longevity in China and Japan, this would certainly go against the essence of the turtle.
At one tank in particular where we were allowed to reach in and touch the turtles but were warned to keep our hands away from their mouths, one swam right up to the wall of the tank to “tell” me something, it seemed. Facing me, it lifted its head completely out of the water as if greeting me or communicating a specific message to me.
That fascinated me along with a lady standing nearby.
My new turtle friend held this head-lifted position long enough for me to capture a photo.
When we first started our adventure at Cayman Turtle Farm — prior to the part of the outing when we snorkeled at Boatswain’s Beach located on the same property — and before sipping fresh coconut water thanks to a friendly employee who skillfully hacked open green coconuts for visitors — our group traveled from one turtle tank to another gathering all sorts of facts from Andrew about these intriguing turtles that range in size at the farm from about “6 ounces to 600 pounds.”
Inspired by my visit to Cayman Turtle Farm, I find myself back at home diligently researching just what the turtle represents, spiritually.
Daily Wisdom Inspired by the Turtle
According to Whats-Your-Sign.com, we are told:
“Because of its seemingly wide-eyed, long-lived, carefree attitude the turtle is often thought to be the wisest of souls among the animal kingdom. We would all do well to take this as a lesson and move at our own pace as the turtle does.
Furthermore, the turtle takes its wisdom one day at a time – not reacting, simply accepting and moving on in its natural methods. Again, this is a powerful analogy for humankind, and we would benefit from adopting the same behavior pattern.”
Perhaps this was the message the raised-head turtle was communicating to me!
Now, it is my pleasure to share the message with you!
