Do you find yourself doing things that really meet your needs and wants, or do you busy yourself to temporarily numb, pacify, or distract yourself from doing, saying, and/or being what will satisfy your needs and wants?
I realize I left something out, your desires.
First, let me define my terms…
- A need is something important and requires being addressed; if not, the result(s) can have strong ramifications.
- A want is something you don’t need but would really like to have or experience.
- A desire is a want with intensity or passion.
Hundreds of years ago, when the culture at large pinned shame, guilt, and embarrassment to our desires, starting with the sexual and erotic (a whole other conversation), it became uncomfortable or difficult to own one’s desires, let alone know them.
What if you accorded the same attention to your desires, as you do what you need and want?
Ignoring your desires is like an orchestra with only one instrument — you can make music but only with one sound and after a while it becomes monotonous and repetitious. Where’s the joy, fun, and passion in that?
Did you know that by honoring what you passionately or intensely want, you can actually fuel your Life energy? Imagine that fuel added to your life. What would you do? Where would you go?
