Snoring is more than a nuisance. And if you’ve been snoring for years, you might think it’s impossible to cure. And if you just started snoring it’s possible that you’re searching for a cure.
In any cases, there are some simple things you can do that might help.
These simple six tricks can help to prevent snoring, or at least help you to snore less. And though some of these tricks might seem strange, it’s worth giving one (or several) a try.
1. Sing
It doesn’t matter if you sing badly or your voice is squeaky. Singing warms up your throat muscles and makes them stronger at the same time. Sing at least fifteen minutes a day.
You should notice an improvement after only a few days. Singing also produces endorphins, a hormone that makes you feel happy. This means that you would kill two birds with one stone – you will snore less and you will be more positive and happy.
2. Stick a tennis ball to your back
This might sound uncomfortable, and that’s kind of the point.
The reason for placing a tennis ball on your back is to promote sleeping on your side. During the night the slight unpleasantness of the tennis ball won’t do you much harm and will force you back on your site.
Why is sleeping on your site better? Because back sleeping is one of the top three causes of snoring.
So the ball attached to your lower back will prevent you from sleeping in this position. Don’t worry, the ball won’t wake you up during the night. Your body will instinctively move to the side, as it would feel an obstacle. And after some time you will get used to this completely and even thank the ball because it helped you.
3. Raise your pillow
If you don’t want to give it a try with the tennis ball and sleeping on your back is your favorite position, try to raise your pillow.
While sleeping on the back, your jaw falls down which opens the mouth. This makes the tongue fall back which partially closes the airways. And this physiological affect produces snoring as the space for the air is too tight.
If you want to keep sleeping on the back, make sure your head posture is right. Raise your pillow about 3 to 4 inches higher than you normally position it. By raising your pillow your head will be in a position where your lower jaw will not fall down.
4. Rinsing liquor
A dry airway makes you snore. The situation worsens if your throat is dry too.
Drink as much water as possible throughout the day to keep the moist in your throat. You can also rinse your mouth before going to bed with peppermint liquor, or drink peppermint tea. Peppermint opens up the airways in the throat, but also affects your nose.
5. Avoid sedatives
You might use sedatives to fall asleep easier. Maybe you have a hard time sleeping at night or suffer with insomnia. If this is the case, you might want to try natural solutions here.
Sedatives relax you way too much. You want a peaceful and quiet sleep, but it is impossible if you take some of these. It is better to prepare yourself a mint, sage, or thyme tea. This will have the same effect as the sedatives but doesn’t produce snoring.
6. Try using mouth guard
Last but not least, you can try using a mouth guard to stop snoring.
Maybe you’ve heard of these. They are effective and easy to use. The mouth guard is probably the most simple solution that can help you snore less.
Consider using one (or more) of these tricks to see which one works best for you. It would be great if you apply all of these, as it would have positive effects on your overall health. You will stop snoring, but at the same time, you will improve a quality of your life.
