I have always been a big advocate of whole foods… and I still am. I started juicing within the last year and realize it has its’ benefits too. I was juicing pretty much once a day and wanted to learn more about it.
I started reading about juice fasts and their possible benefits.
A juice fast is credited with being beneficial for a multitude of reasons…
- cleansing
- nutrient-dense
- enzyme-rich
- gives digestion a rest
A ten day juice fast seemed like the path I wanted to take.
Reasons for my 10 day juice fast
I have struggled with candida (overgrowth of intestinal yeast) off and on for years and wondered what a serious fast could do.
My goals:
- kick start candida cleanse
- regain health
- detox/cleanse
- lose a couple of pounds
In order to help facilitate a candida cleanse I had to juice without sugar. Candida feeds on sugar. This meant no:
- beets
- carrots
- fruit
The results of my juice cleanse:
- motivation to continue on a yeast-fighting diet
- regained energy/felt better
- eliminated non-beneficial foods
- lost weight
What I learned…
I learned quite a bit during the ten days.
I definitely learned the difference between wanting to eat and actually being hungry.
This is something most of us struggle with.
I also learned fiber is crucial for having bowel movements. I was unable to go to the bathroom! The last thing you want to do is experience constipation when you are trying to eliminate dead and dying yeast from your body. A solution to this is to take a fiber supplement or have a couple of small snacks (daily) containing small amounts of fiber.
The juice fast also put me at a good starting point to continue on with a candida cleansing diet.
A juice fast can be beneficial for a lot of people.
Those fighting excess weight or obesity, along with chronic disease, can lose weight and start reversing their health problems. Anyone with serious health problems should seek some professional supervision before engaging in a fast.
