We’ve been led to believe that we should be able to fix things just by using our willpower so that we don’t, for example, buy those cigarettes, eat too much food, or worry.
We’ve been led to believe Just Do It! and poof…it’s done.
Growing up, I remember being told all I needed to do to lose weight, was to use my willpower to stop eating or push myself away from the table. If you’ve ever dealt with your own overeating, smoking, biting your nails, or feelings of worry, anxiousness, or sadness, you know Just Do It!, doesn’t do it!
To achieve your goals, here’s what you need to know about willpower:
1. Willpower is Temporary, not Permanent
Willpower is like a temporary folder of the mind, it’s not the hard drive. If you’re not continuously focused on the behavior you want to change, you won’t be consistent in changing it, and as a result, you quickly revert back to those old habits.
Hypnosis makes use of the subconscious mind, the mind’s hard drive, clearing what gets in your way of lasting change. This is one reason why hypnosis works wonderfully for ‘bad’ habits!
2. Will Has No Power
The word ‘will’ exists only in the future, not the present. Have you ever noticed when you ask someone if they will do something, and they say yes, they may not use the time frame you had in mind? WHY? You never gave them one! This is one reason why suggestions such as “I will stop eating unhealthy food.” are ineffective.

Willpower relies on information you have, your intellect, which is not effective in making lasting change. You may have heard me say this before.
