Too often fitness and nutrition are perceived as something you do or pursue because of “vanity.”
And though it’s true that health and beauty go hand in hand, eating right and getting in better shape is not simply a way to look younger, but to feel younger as well.
After all, as we age the key is to live well (i.e. quality of life).
So how can nutrition and fitness add years to your life?
Nutrition and fitness as anti aging therapy
Believe it or not the foods we eat and daily exercise can “turn back the clock” more than you know, or realize.
It’s true.
After all, you “are what you eat.”
So how do you change your “eating habits” to start on the path to better nutrition?
Turn to nutrition counseling. This might include working with a nutritionist who can help create a better diet for you that will match your lifestyle and fitness goals. Additionally, you may need some supportive counseling to help you deal with any issue related to food or body image issues.
When it comes to better nutrition, here are a few other points to keep in mind.
It’s possible that natural supplements and vitamins may help to fill the nutrition “gaps” associated with your diet. This is especially important as you age, since deficiencies in calcium and vitamin D, to name a few, are important for bone and skin health — two areas that are especially vulnerable as you age.
Supporting a health metabolism is just as important.
To maintain the balance of nutrition and aging which will help to sustain your natural beauty the primary goal of a healthy diet is one that helps to maintain a balanced metabolism rate while limiting unnecessary fat and sugar in your diet.
Sure, the focus for years has been on “low fat,” and though this is important it’s not nearly as significant as the high intake of sugar that most of us unknowingly consume each day. For example, for years I would tell people to stop drinking soda and watch 5 to 10 pounds disappear within a few weeks. And though the focus of this article is not on “high fructose corn syrup” — which probably deserves it’s own article — the key is to be mindful of what you take into your body from even supposedly “healthy” options.
Finally comes fitness.
The fact of the matter is this — as we age we have to keep our bodies moving. This will help to improve circulation, which promotes health by helping your body rid itself of toxins, as well as preventing muscle loss which naturally occurs over time.
When it comes to healthy muscle mass and tone the old saying that “if you don’t use it you’ll lose it” applies.
Exercise like daily walking and 30 minutes of light cardio is a good mix for any person to consider now and at any age.
Does that make sense to you?
Improving your diet and working out even a little bit each week will help to promote a healthier lifestyle. It’s not rocket science, for sure.
When all is said and done do you want to age like your parents and grand-parents did?
For most of us the answer is “no.”
Today, maintaining health and beauty with proper nutrition fitness is an anti-aging therapy that combines common sense with a little bit of effort.
